Quark
- or INDESIGN
1. Provide us with a flattened Photoshop file
saved as a TIFF or JPEG file. Photoshop PSD files can be supplied
on the disk, however, Digital Fringe will not make any alterations
to the files. File alterations are the responsibility from you
or your design team.
2. Our prefered file format is a TIFF. An EPS
image should ONLY be provided IF the Photoshop file contains clipping
paths, is imported into and to be printed from either Quark Express
or Adobe InDesign.
3. When providing a Quark or InDesign file with
placed images, make sure the placed image is properly linked and
included in the folder.
4. If you are providing a Quark or InDesign file,
all fonts should be converted to paths or outlines in either application
in order to avoid font conflicts, the chance for missing fonts,
etc.
5. If you are providing a Quark or InDesign file
with imported Illustrator or Freehand files, make sure that any
fonts used in the vector files has been converted to paths or
outlines prior to their importation to a TIFF, PDF or Illustrator
.eps.
6. The best and safest format for Digital Fringe
to send files is a "press quality" PDF file, with bleeds
and crop marks included. Be sure that the Photoshop images used
to create the PDF files are high-res. PDF files eliminate the
need to include fonts, photos, vector art, etc., and generally,
the press quality PDF files are much smaller (fewer KB or MB)
and therefore more efficient to print.
NOTICE
#1 and #2 apply ONLY if you are supplying a Quark or InDesign
file with linked Photoshop files.
If you are supplying a press quality PDF file, the photo images
will automatically be imbedded in the layout file...no need for
the separate linked Photoshop file.
Digital photography:
Photographic Art: If you are providing us with
photographs that are already in a digital format, we like .tif
files best. Resolution should be about 400 DPI at 25%. We like
PhotoShop .tif files best but can work with most formats including
.jpg, .bmp, Photoshop .eps, Kodak .pcd [avoid .gif files at all
cost!!]
PhotoShop - Save your files in .tif format. Give
us 600 DPI at 25% of your final print size.
Illustrator - Place all images into your files
rather than linking them. Convert all text or fonts to outlines
(graphics, curves, paths, etc.). Export your file as an Illustrator
.eps or PDF.
Freehand - All images should be included in the
file rather than linked. Convert all text or fonts to paths. Export
your file in .eps or PDF format.
Corel - Not one of our favorites but we can usually
work with Corel files. Convert your text or fonts to curves. Once
you have done this, look at them closely with the zoom tool. You
may need to make adjustments to the resulting curves to keep them
from looking "blocky". EXPORT your file in .eps or pdf
format.
If your file is strictly photographic, a .tif file will work nicely.
PUBLISHER - EXPORT to JPG,TIF or PDF
